Kanban project management for software teams

Small software teams need enough structure to ship together, not a process platform that becomes the work. Tarsen gives a team a real board, stable references, clear ownership, and a daily plan without asking you to become a Jira administrator.

The useful software-team layer

Cards have stable identifiers such as TAR-102, so a comment, commit message, or assistant conversation can refer to the same piece of work for its entire life. Priority, estimate, due date, start date, blocked state, and sub-cards make the board more useful than a title-only list.

  • Use lists for the workflow your team already understands.
  • Set WIP limits where starting too much is the real bottleneck.
  • Assign one or more people, add checklists, and keep decisions in comments.
  • Use labels, filters, saved views, search, and My Work to find the work without opening every project.
  • Let Mission Mode turn the open board into a capacity-aware plan for today.

Collaboration that stays near the card

Live updates, presence, mentions, reactions, structured activity, and notifications keep a small team aligned without requiring every decision to move into a separate project channel. Private and member-only projects are available when a project should not be visible to the whole workspace.

Ask Tarsen can answer questions from the board, and the MCP server lets a compatible assistant read or change the same work with the permissions of the connected user.

Where it stops

Tarsen is not a complete software delivery lifecycle. It does not model code repositories, pull requests, release trains, dependency graphs, incident response, or a full agile reporting suite. A software team can run a focused product board in it; a large engineering organization may need a deeper specialist tool.

The honest comparison is not that Tarsen replaces every developer tool. It is that many small teams need less ceremony around the work they are already capable of doing.

Moving a board over

Import a Trello board as a new project, keep lists, descriptions, labels, checklists, comments, dates, and archived cards, then assign the work and set the done list. JSON and CSV export mean the project remains portable if the fit changes.
